{ a petite bow } January 5, 2011

Much have happened since my last post and collection – family, work, and life in general, have gone onto another stage for me. My dear pling customers, fans, friends and supporters, thank you for all your lovely emails and notes during this time! You remind me about this little haven that I’ve created and help keep my humble dream alive! Pacing myself around this new routine, pling is back after the mad rush during the Xmas season. And I thank all of you for being so kind and patient with me and pling.

Now, onto my 1st post for this wonderful new year, and by sharing this inspiration during my one of my travels…

I was inspired by this sculpture which I saw at Musée d’Orsay in Paris – ‘La Petite Danseuse’ by Edgar Degas. Intrigued by the satin hair ribbons and real gauze skirts, this bronze dancer was a fine example of Impressionist art – powerful in emotions, and hyperreal with its real gauze tutu, pointe shoes and satin pink ribbons. Looking at the pictures I took of this beautiful piece of art, I recalled how tempted I was to add something to this pretty figure – a similarly petite bow necklace with an ethereal glitter from a single Swarovski crystal.

On hindsight, I created these to conjure that lovely memory, and to accompany your simpler days.

{ all that gold and glitter… } May 20, 2010

…are not diamonds. And, just perfect for this season’s uptown elegance or rebel cool.

Get some glitter going with your delicate feminine blouse in sheer cream, or a mini-floral print dress. Think easy elegance. A touch of luxe, and not too much.

Or if urban cool is your thing, layer simple separates in jersey, denim and leather, and throw in a touch of nostalgia with a vintage-style long necklace. I especially love that vintage gold-plated whistle! This dainty thing really works! It is harmonizing wondrously with my long black tee and blush-hued biker jacket for a downtown-perfect ensemble.

{ alice in wonderland ~ part I } March 1, 2010

Inspired by the fantastical world created by Lewis Carroll in his lovely tale, ‘Alice In Wonderland’, this series of necklaces, earrings and bracelets will transport you to that whimsical dreamscape, where all the characters are so out-of-the-world amusing. I can’t wait to watch Tim Burton’s rendition of this tale, and of course, Johnny Depp’s portrayal as the Mad Hatter. I’m so looking forward to the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party scene. The trailer is enough to get me super excited! It’s so dark, mysterious, imaginative, quirky and colorful!

Alice In Wonderland bracelets will be uploaded in the next week’s post. For a preview, join pling’s fanpage!

Collaborating with an American artist that I’ve come to adore, I present to you pling’s latest collection, a tribute to the bizarre tale of a girl, her dream world, and the curious characters she met in that unusual dreamscape.

{ come fly with me } January 12, 2010

A new week starts…and another week to start flying, soaring to the skies, on wings that bring you above the noise and disturbances that can sometimes plague one’s life. Imagine that? Maybe some of you have already broken your new year’s resolutions right in the first week. But a new week has started, so it’s a chance to start again. Spring breeds a rejuvenated world for the birds and butterflies, and every new week brings fresh beginnings for us. Time to fly!

Sharing one of my favorite poems with all of you…

< New Every Morning >

Every day is a fresh beginning,
Listen my soul to the glad refrain.
And, spite of old sorrows
And older sinning,
Troubles forecasted
And possible pain,
Take heart with the day and begin again.

~ Susan Coolidge

{ bella’s bracelet } November 20, 2009

One day, I was sent a picture of a bracelet to customize for a customer, a year ago. Yes, a year ago! This bracelet hailed from a picture in the Twilight series’ by Stephanie Meyer, called Eclipse. Yes, guilty as charged, I didn’t read the books. 🙂 Yet. And with the upcoming New Moon movie, I thought to release this before the movie so that 2 customers could wear it to the screening and be absolutely thrilled.

After watching the Twilight DVD (Though the bracelet was not shown then, one could sense the upcoming love struggle that the protagonist Bella Swan faces between Edward and Jacob. I want to understand it better.), I got round to making it which includes getting the wooden wolf charm hand-carved in great detail by a skilled carpenter. I thought as a keepsake bracelet and being important to a fan of the series, I should not skimp on using good materials and spending time on the details. So, here they are and I’ve only 2 to sell as the wooden wolf charms were only completed after 3 frustrating attempts by the artisan! Of course, he decided not to do more. Sad. So here goes…

Whether you are rooting for Edward or Jacob, you can still wear your heart on your sleeve and flaunt the romantic in you. Dark romantic for some of you (wolves and vampines I mean!).

The rhodium bracelet features hand-carved wooden wolf charm, a Swarovski heart crystal and a Swarovski mini red crystal, and closes with a toggle clasp. Click on picture for description and to order.

{ skeleton keys } November 14, 2009

Remember the joy when you received your 1st set of keys to the house as you turn of age? Or the excitement on the vast possibilities and future jubilation when you turn the keys to your new home? Or sweet nostalgia as you handled the keys to a very special box where memories and precious things are kept? Keys mean so much…a place of security, a home you call your own, or something you want to keep secret and only you would know and understand what the contents mean to you.

These skeleton key necklaces are a continuation of my obsession with them – their simple beauty, or for some, their extremely intricate details. Popular in the late 1800s, these keys conjure images of vintage furniture, classical homes, Gothic churches and antiqued chests. The possibilities of imagination are endless when the old (the key necklaces) and the new (your outfit) co-exist in fashion and style.

{ lovely as a tree } October 22, 2009

First of all, apologies for this late upload and for ‘disappearing’ for a while. Been back since last week, a little jet-lagged and my mum has taken ill. But she’s alright now (Praise to the Lord! And thanks for all your prayers! I feel very blessed.), feisty as ever. I’m finding some time amidst shuttling between home and hospital to get pling ready. I’m excited about my new pieces, especially after my trip and the tons of inspiration I got from it.

First up, trees. I continued to be inspired by them. Gardens as well. I’ve seen the most beautiful garden in my life. I think our summery island has none to compare. But still, we have plenty of trees. Sharing 2 of my pictures with you (I had a real hard time picking them out of my thousands of pictures)…

I can’t agree with Wilson Flagg more when he said that all that is cheerful and delightful in our memories will always be associated with trees or against the background of trees. Sharing another quotation that I like. I hope you will find the quote and these pieces as delightful as I did creating them.

The trees are God’s great alphabet:
With them He writes in shining green
Across the world His thoughts serene.

{ take a bow… make a statement } September 9, 2009

No eyes will be able to avert their attention from these eye-catching necklaces that make a statement. Some combine the delicateness of a ribbon with funky chic, while another uses the appeal of vintage gold. The limited edition piece, featuring a mammoth ornate crystal glass, Swarovski pearls and star-studded clasp, is sure to excite ‘oohhs’ and ‘ahhs’.

My pieces are also getting bigger, as the season goes into Fall. With the exception of the 1st vintage piece, the rest are bigger. For my lovelies out there, who prefer something funky to go with their long T ensemble. 🙂 After speaking to many of you, I’ll start on bracelets soon. Look out for them~!

As I continue my obsession with bows (other obsessions include doves, trees, ancient keys and words plates etc.), I discover that ribbons or bows can take many faces, give different feel and suit varied personalities. A little bit of this or a little bit of that would change the look and feel of a piece. Ribbon-themed shoe clips (or brooch) can be found here.
