{ a petite bow } January 5, 2011

Much have happened since my last post and collection – family, work, and life in general, have gone onto another stage for me. My dear pling customers, fans, friends and supporters, thank you for all your lovely emails and notes during this time! You remind me about this little haven that I’ve created and help keep my humble dream alive! Pacing myself around this new routine, pling is back after the mad rush during the Xmas season. And I thank all of you for being so kind and patient with me and pling.

Now, onto my 1st post for this wonderful new year, and by sharing this inspiration during my one of my travels…

I was inspired by this sculpture which I saw at Musée d’Orsay in Paris – ‘La Petite Danseuse’ by Edgar Degas. Intrigued by the satin hair ribbons and real gauze skirts, this bronze dancer was a fine example of Impressionist art – powerful in emotions, and hyperreal with its real gauze tutu, pointe shoes and satin pink ribbons. Looking at the pictures I took of this beautiful piece of art, I recalled how tempted I was to add something to this pretty figure – a similarly petite bow necklace with an ethereal glitter from a single Swarovski crystal.

On hindsight, I created these to conjure that lovely memory, and to accompany your simpler days.

{ alice in wonderland ~ part I } March 1, 2010

Inspired by the fantastical world created by Lewis Carroll in his lovely tale, ‘Alice In Wonderland’, this series of necklaces, earrings and bracelets will transport you to that whimsical dreamscape, where all the characters are so out-of-the-world amusing. I can’t wait to watch Tim Burton’s rendition of this tale, and of course, Johnny Depp’s portrayal as the Mad Hatter. I’m so looking forward to the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party scene. The trailer is enough to get me super excited! It’s so dark, mysterious, imaginative, quirky and colorful!

Alice In Wonderland bracelets will be uploaded in the next week’s post. For a preview, join pling’s fanpage!

Collaborating with an American artist that I’ve come to adore, I present to you pling’s latest collection, a tribute to the bizarre tale of a girl, her dream world, and the curious characters she met in that unusual dreamscape.

Onward to the post…

Many were feeling blue now that the long holidays have officially ended on Monday, which inspired these creations and this post. I’m sure that blue is not always associated with gloominess and dismay, and not all the time. Before we sink into such dismal sentiments for this particular hue, I would like to invite all of you to think of skies so blue that you just admire how sublime this color is. Think of the myriad of blues in the sea as it changes in depth and mineral deposits. Think of how these two (the sky and the sea) combine to form a picturesque vista that is so healing to the mind, body and soul. Think of the mysterious blue of the night that hints of the great unknown. Think of comfortable blue jeans so soft that you can’t feel anymore snug. Think of blue…positively and fondly.

I love these blues…and I hope you do too! Wishing you all a refreshed start and another blessed year ahead.

May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day.
May songbirds serenade you every step along the way.
May a rainbow run beside you in a sky that’s always blue.
And may happiness fill your heart each day your whole life through.

{ winter wonderland } November 29, 2009

A dash of gold in a blanket of silvery sheen reminds me of twinkling Christmas lights in a snowy city. Sadly, our summery island has no snowflakes teasing our faces as we saunter down the streets, buying gifts for our loved ones and meeting long-time friends for that warm cuppa tea and coffee. But movies kept that image alive within me and one day, I hope to spend Christmas in a place where there is snow. And for all you lovelies out there in the falling snow, keep warm and take care. I sure hope it’s not so wintry that it hurts.

These creations mix gold and silver color, and the results can be pretty amazing. Some allow you to jumble girlish charm with boyish chic, spruce up that midnight party glamor with simple allure, or even return to the simplicity of everyday life, noticing things that you have not. What’s life without taking a moment to appreciate life’s little wonders and small gestures of kindness, right?

{ take a bow… make a statement } September 9, 2009

No eyes will be able to avert their attention from these eye-catching necklaces that make a statement. Some combine the delicateness of a ribbon with funky chic, while another uses the appeal of vintage gold. The limited edition piece, featuring a mammoth ornate crystal glass, Swarovski pearls and star-studded clasp, is sure to excite ‘oohhs’ and ‘ahhs’.

My pieces are also getting bigger, as the season goes into Fall. With the exception of the 1st vintage piece, the rest are bigger. For my lovelies out there, who prefer something funky to go with their long T ensemble. 🙂 After speaking to many of you, I’ll start on bracelets soon. Look out for them~!

As I continue my obsession with bows (other obsessions include doves, trees, ancient keys and words plates etc.), I discover that ribbons or bows can take many faces, give different feel and suit varied personalities. A little bit of this or a little bit of that would change the look and feel of a piece. Ribbon-themed shoe clips (or brooch) can be found here.

{ when i was a little girl… } June 2, 2009

Inspired by the ribbons and bows that were in my dresses when I was a little girl, and paying tribute to my late daddy who used to tie my hair for me (yes, it was my daddy who loved to braid my hair for school), these pieces bring me back to my childhood days of so much fun and reverie.

And carousels…who doesn’t love them? Boys and girls alike, we all like these merry-go-rounds. And living in apartments with playgrounds, we kids couldn’t wait to head downstairs for some crazy climbing, digging and chasing around those modest carousels. They still hold a special place in my heart and I rejoice whenever I catch a glimpse of them in old estates. Not those modern synthetics one. They don’t make them like that anymore. The ones that we occasionally see at those big fairs and in overseas countries just ooze with romantic connotations – bright, glittering, and fairytale like.

New products! I love to wear flats and those ballet flats from Cotton On are my casual shoes. Sometimes, I just feel like dressing them up and thus, this idea! Even though I categorize them as shoe clips, they can be used as a brooch, a hair clip, or a multi-clip to adorn a plain top. Add some razzle-dazzle and something ordinary is transformed instantly! Let me know how you would like to use them and I’ll customize accordingly. Limited pieces and I sell them in pairs. Shoes not included, of course. 🙂

{ in actual words ~ part I } May 12, 2009

Words matter to me. But not when they are uttered separate from the heart, or in spite of the heart. I have this small obsession with singular words as I think they would mean different things to different people, and that is the beauty of it. Let your imagination run, or let your heart speak. Or hint at a past longing, a forgotten memory. In this concrete world, we might not be free to say certain things close to our heart, but at least, we could wear it near our hearts! Isn’t it great?

The 1st in a series that I will continue to make, and later on introduce some customizable ones (after I have actually figured out some techniques and find those missing tools). I’m very excited about the customized series, which I really hope to master soon and bring them to you lovelies out there who have been supporting me and pling this past 1.5 year since our inception.
