{ two souls, one heart } June 22, 2010

Back after a brief respite…thank you for all your FB messages and emails while I was away, and your support for pling’s entry in the Singapore Blog Awards. I feel much love! And love is what inspired this post and these creations.

Whether you are happily married, attached, or single, I’m sure we all desire to share our lives and our dreams with someone we love and respect. Borrowing the popular French saying ‘deux ames un cœur’, which translates to ‘two souls, one heart’, I dedicate this wedding collection to these happy thoughts which filled my mind and heart, when I was conceptualizing, designing and creating these pieces.

For the recollection of this day, even years after…
For the start of a beautiful journey together…
For something new, something old, and something borrowed…
For those lovely bridesmaids, dear friends and mothers, who are by your side this momentous day…

And of course, you can wear these on non-wedding days to add an element of sweet romance, or a dash of Victorian charm to your getup. These bracelets are particularly wonderful as gifts for bridemaids, which they could wear in replacement of floral corsages on wedding day, and treasure as keepsakes thereafter.

Weave. Spin. Wrap.

I love fabrics. Do you?

I love the colors, the diverse patterns, and the varied textures.

Recently, I’ve been a little obsessed over polka dots, stripes and checks, and thought how neat it would be to “weave” them into pling‘s pieces. In my head, I’m thinking along the lines of ‘quirky, fun and kawaii’, with a tinge of that unaffected romanticism which is comfortable, but yet, brings a smile to the face.

Here, I present to you my 1st series of fabric-wrapped necklaces and ring, adorned with ladybirds and fleurs.

{ take a bow… make a statement } September 9, 2009

No eyes will be able to avert their attention from these eye-catching necklaces that make a statement. Some combine the delicateness of a ribbon with funky chic, while another uses the appeal of vintage gold. The limited edition piece, featuring a mammoth ornate crystal glass, Swarovski pearls and star-studded clasp, is sure to excite ‘oohhs’ and ‘ahhs’.

My pieces are also getting bigger, as the season goes into Fall. With the exception of the 1st vintage piece, the rest are bigger. For my lovelies out there, who prefer something funky to go with their long T ensemble. 🙂 After speaking to many of you, I’ll start on bracelets soon. Look out for them~!

As I continue my obsession with bows (other obsessions include doves, trees, ancient keys and words plates etc.), I discover that ribbons or bows can take many faces, give different feel and suit varied personalities. A little bit of this or a little bit of that would change the look and feel of a piece. Ribbon-themed shoe clips (or brooch) can be found here.

{ fly away } August 20, 2009

That day, I was looking at the birds at Bishan Park during the bazaar, while ogling at the dogs that were passing by, totally distracted by the birds, children and people all round, and probably shouting in their minds ‘BIRD!’. (Those who have watched the animation ‘Up!’ would know what I mean.)

In fact, I’m not much of a bird person. The ones that plaque the trees along Orchard Road really frighten me with their excited chirps in the evening. Probably I feel that their droppings might befall on my head anytime. But, I do think our little feathered friends have interesting shapes and such adorable body lines that really inspired this range of handmade necklaces and earrings. Some of those canaries, doves, and egrets that I’ve seen in bird parks, aviaries, nature reserves and as pets, are so endearing with their round eyes and bright songs.

Sometimes, I thought how wonderful it would be to take flight. Flying away to someplace beautiful, whenever your heart calls for it, or just hovering in the skies, taking in the view below among fluffy clouds, would be simply wonderful. If only I have wings…

{ keys of inspiration ~ part II } July 8, 2009

These modern keys are given a twist from the past. Engraved with “Life”, “Dreams”, “Love” or “Secret”, they tell stories of secret yearnings, quiet admiration, or fantasies of another world. Like opening up doors that are closed, keys have always symbolized, at least for me, fresh opportunities and chances that are blessings from above and where beyond those doors, lies treasures that are most dear to heart – family, friendship and love.

{ in actual words ~ part I } May 12, 2009

Words matter to me. But not when they are uttered separate from the heart, or in spite of the heart. I have this small obsession with singular words as I think they would mean different things to different people, and that is the beauty of it. Let your imagination run, or let your heart speak. Or hint at a past longing, a forgotten memory. In this concrete world, we might not be free to say certain things close to our heart, but at least, we could wear it near our hearts! Isn’t it great?

The 1st in a series that I will continue to make, and later on introduce some customizable ones (after I have actually figured out some techniques and find those missing tools). I’m very excited about the customized series, which I really hope to master soon and bring them to you lovelies out there who have been supporting me and pling this past 1.5 year since our inception.

{ keys of inspiration ~ part I } May 5, 2009

Antiqued keys conjure romantic notions of a time past, of a place where treasures were safely locked from plain view in immovable chests or dainty jewel boxes. They never fail to inspire me to dream of the place where it might have been, transporting me to a period that I always find in the classics.

Imagining drawers that have yet been discovered, old chests that were not opened for ages, antiqued keys are like guardians to these memories or secrets. Safely tucked away, these containers lie in wait for the holder of the key to reveal their treasures within, treasures that were held so dear to the heart.

Stamped with singular words of “Journey”, “Heart” or “Memory” (short, concise and poignant), these keys of inspirations hope to interpret your feelings of the moment, the life at present or a past experience much cherished.
