{ dedicated to love } January 21, 2010

What’s your love story? I bet we all have different ones. And sometimes, many and not just one (I’m not promoting infidelity. So please read on…). Love keeps you warm, keeps you alive, and keeps you hopeful. Thus, you need to love yourself too.

Sometime ago, a friend asked me, “What is love?”. A big question, and a difficult one to answer by little me. I think, generally, love is when you share an important part of yourself with someone. It may only be a part, and not the whole, as we ourselves may not know what our whole is like. With this, I think love takes many forms – Father and child, parent and child, husband and wife, siblings, friends, lovers, work partners, and one-sided admiration. The word is ‘share’, meaning ‘give and receive’, and not ‘taking’ all the time. Give selflessly without contemplating and calculating what you will receive in return. Receive without guilt, without taking it for granted, and with heartfelt gratitude and humility.

This Valentine’s Day, celebrate love. Not just BF-GF love, husband-wife love, but the people whom you love, and who love you.

Dedicated to the many kinds of love…

Loved you yesterday,
Love you still,
Always have, always will.

And thank you for loving me and pling ♥

{ come fly with me } January 12, 2010

A new week starts…and another week to start flying, soaring to the skies, on wings that bring you above the noise and disturbances that can sometimes plague one’s life. Imagine that? Maybe some of you have already broken your new year’s resolutions right in the first week. But a new week has started, so it’s a chance to start again. Spring breeds a rejuvenated world for the birds and butterflies, and every new week brings fresh beginnings for us. Time to fly!

Sharing one of my favorite poems with all of you…

< New Every Morning >

Every day is a fresh beginning,
Listen my soul to the glad refrain.
And, spite of old sorrows
And older sinning,
Troubles forecasted
And possible pain,
Take heart with the day and begin again.

Nothing is more classic and sleek than a bit of silver on a large canvas of black. With the seasons in a jumble these days, get earrings that you can wear anywhere, with any outfit and be always in style. Be it to work, for a date or a casual day out, pop on one of these and go! With a dash of 925 silver against black wood or semi-precious onyx stones, these earrings connote modern chic and easy confidence. It’s no wonder why they are fail-safe additions to your wardrobe.

We have always been inspired by Nature, one of God’s many gifts to mankind. Besides animals, films and music, pling has looked to flora and its faithful companion, butterflies, for inspiration. In one of my travels, Rome in particular (of which I’m sharing 2 of my pictures with you here), I was lucky to chance upon a huge garden of lavender in front of Galleria Borghese (a museum) and a tiny garden of wild flowers on a hillside, facing the ancient city.

Such was the beauty around us! If only we can always find time to stop and admire them…well, at least with these accessories, we can wear them and borrow Nature’s beauty to adorn our everyday lives.

{ retro gold } January 25, 2008

A splash of vintage gold goes a long way this season, what with yellow, petrol blue & neon being the must-have hues this year. With these statement pieces in retro gold, you can inject a dose of the seventies hell-may-care glamor or take a romantic literal lead into the imagery depicted on the necklace.

And because these necklaces are what every cool girl has (at least one!), I’m bringing them back as must-have extras for dressing up your plains, jeans or simply adding an attitude to your color combination. To avoid: dangling earrings when donning these necklaces. (They are eye-catching enough!) Simple studs will do. Now, isn’t that easy? It’s wear and go!

Go on a nostalgic journey when you were still a little girl…ogling at granny’s gleaming gold handbag and those large frame spectacles that are making a comeback now…dialing a rotary phone that’s oh-so-cool and going ‘Hello! Hello!’ while cradling the handset that was too big for your tiny hands…hiding under the soft, warm patchwork blanket that mummy or granny has made specially for you.

These retro accessories remind you of a bygone era. I love retro and vintage clothings, home decor and lifestyle items. Why? Because they have history. Because they have a story to tell. Because they are usually colorful, bold, subtly embellished and absolutely cool.

How then do you wear these retro accessories? The key is keeping the rest of your outfit simple. Not too much bling-bling or complicated prints on the rest of your outerwear or you risk looking like a X’mas tree. Let the piece be the statement itself. And most importantly, wear it with attitude!

Spice up your style, get creative now and let’s go retro!
