{ alice in wonderland ~ part II } March 9, 2010

On the weekend that had just passed, I went to watch Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland in 3D at the cinema. No spoilers, I would divulge.

I love the CG, the dark but vivid hues, the foreground/background juxtaposition, Alice’s whimsical stripy gowns, and the white queen/red queen battles. The story is changed from the original Lewis Carroll’s tale, giving the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) a much heavier role and injecting some romantic elements in the story. Some new characters appeared, much to my surprise. I liked some of the twists, but disliked some. Having said that, making a movie is difficult. And what’s more, interpreting a classic, particularly this story, and NOT moving this fantasy tale to cutesy-ness, if you get what I mean. I’m kind of glad that Tim Burton kept to his signature style, which is still a genre on its own. The art direction, makeup and costume design are to be admired.

After watching the film, this is part II of my own interpretation of Alice In Wonderland. Collaborating with American artist, I hope you will find these bracelets adding loveliness to your wrist, and for a fun day out! Let’s get immersed in our own version of Wonderland, whatever and wherever it might be…

{ let’s ear it for… } September 2, 2009

Earrings…if I ever stepped out without them, I feel bare or semi-dressed. Not that they have to be dressy all the time, I sometimes wear studs too if I’m wearing a statement necklace, or if there are too much details on my top.

Somehow, earrings seem to complete a look. For me, I fiddle with them when I’m reading, thinking, or simply staring into space, day-dreaming. Guess they help me think. Guess they have a texture that I can feel easily (without looking like I’m fondling something). Guess when they swing near my face, I feel a tad more vibrant. It’s amazing how much a simple piece of accessory, a pair of earrings, can do. And seriously, I don’t even think about it unless I didn’t wear them. So, let’s hear (ear) it for…

{ peace doves } April 16, 2009

Doves, lovely as they are with their soft feathers, are symbols of peace, love and freedom. In Christian art & poetry, Dove represents the Holy Spirit (John 1:32).

Similarly, they have inspired many artists, designers, composers and film-makers. Using them here in the bijou way of a piece of jewelry, and featuring these this month, I hope they hold special significance to the wearers – be it in the conservation of the dwindling dove species, or the hope for peace (war causes too much harm, both to people and to our ailing Earth). And of course, when we love each other and the Earth, we’ll be a little closer to inner peace.

Sharing some of my favorite quotes on peace and love:

“We look forward to the time when the Power of Love will replace the Love of Power.

Then will our world know the blessings of peace.”

~ William Ewart Gladstone

“If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.”

~ Mother Teresa

“Peace cannot be achieved through violence, it can only be attained through understanding.”

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.”

~ Seymour Miller & Jill Jackson, “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” 1955

“In the name of peace
They waged the wars
Ain’t they got no shame”

~Nikki Giovanni
